California state DUI laws are clear about the punishments to be levied against those facing a DUI arrest – but only when it comes to license revocation. Other than this, California DUI laws give courts the right to levy additional penalties.

With electronic monitoring, also referred to as house arrest, you must wear an ankle bracelet that monitors your whereabouts. Under California DUI laws, arrangements can usually be made to allow the wearer to go to school or work.
With work release, California DUI laws allow you to work at a site determined by the Probation Department, and then return home to sleep. Work furlough is different as you may be able to keep your regular job, but you will have to return to a designated area to sleep.
If you are sent to city jail, which is also referred to as weekend jail, you will be responsible for checking yourself in, and will be released the following day.
In addition, California state DUI laws may require you to participate in an alcohol rehabilitation program. This is usually enforced if the judge believes you have an underlying addiction problem. An attorney may also ask a judge to order rehabilitation instead of fines or jail time.
With sober living, you will live in a home with other participants where you will perform chores and other household functions while working on fighting your addiction.
